hi. =) i have a problem using kde1.0. how do i make it the default window manager? according to the faq3.html i downloaded from kde.org, i should edit the files '.Xsession' or '.xinitrc'. but the problem is i cannot find those files in '/root'. and i only have 1 enabled user and that is root. i changed the 'xinitrc' file *suppose to be the generic xinitrc* in '/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xinit'. i commented the lines after the line 'start some nice programs' and added 'startkde'. but it is still loading fvwm2. i've added the original 'xinitrc' file localed in '/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xinit' to this email . i'm a newbie with linux. and i don't really know what to do. hello, first, as has been mentioned by everyone, you should create a user other than root to do most of your work with and then if you need root priviliges you can just <su root> and get the work done. having said that, i didn't do it myself until i actually had everything up and running perfectly, so i understand that it is easier to get everything configured first as root (even if it isn't very wise). econd, i enclosed what i think are the relevant lines from your file. where it says fvwm above, just change to kde. this is what i did and it worked for me. dave - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

I have one. It is the 7502B. First, the little cooling fan in back, made alot of noise after a couple of hours. It is a common problem with this unit. I took it apart and put some good lube in it, and it has been fine ever since. Xcdroast dosn't recognize it, but cdrecord does. It is a reliable unit, except for the noisy cooling fan. Very good for the price, it burns cheap "blue" cd's without a problem. Cdrecord can be a little daunting at first, but there is a package out there called Create-a-cd, which includes cdrecord, and has a very nice README which gives examples for various types of recording. - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>
Do you have a link for this package? Rick

By the way....Xcdroast uses cdrecord...so if you compile the newer cdrecord into Xcdroast source....voila....you have a working Xcdroast. Actually I liked the command line functioning of cdroast better, but Xcdroast does make it easy to make iso images.
