/dev/modem doesn't exist on my system so create it by linking /dev/ttyS0. However, each time I reboot, it is deleted. Can someone tell me what I should do in order to keep it? I have a program that is dependent on it. Place your link command in the file called /etc/profile.local Which program is "hard-wired" to use /dev/modem, instead of ttys0 ? -- Kind regards, Mark H. Why not /etc/init.d/boot.local? That's only called once. /etc/profile.local is called on every shell invocation. I think the proper place (not a hack) would be somewhere in "/etc/udev/*", but I'm uncertain of the file and the syntax. Something like: ...., SYMLINK+="modem" somewhere. - -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.0 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Made with pgp4pine 1.76 iD8DBQFEiYLmtTMYHG2NR9URArUsAJwJ/RQiNLc2UOiMrMo9xeY2zj0elwCeLSj0 jqBrEuf+pp/P41QujK+49uM= =wv8g -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

You are correct sir - assuming the OP is using SUSE Linux 10.0 or 10.1. If this system is using an ltmodem capable device then in the ltmodem documentation there are examples of how to set it up in /etc/udev/*. Have you tried deleting the modem in YaST and then re-adding the modem? -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

I re-add it each time and it is okay until I reboot. -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com
