[opensuse] No Compiz Autostart - SuSE 10.3 no /opt/kde3/share/autostart/compiz.desktop
Listmates, I am trying to determine why compiz will not autostart. Manual start with fusion-icon is required and works fine. One thing I did notice while removing compiz last time with: rpm -e $(rpm -qa | grep compiz) fusion-icon was that compiz-manager would not uninstall due to a missing "/opt/kde3/share/autostart/compiz.desktop" Upon reinstall with 1-click, "/opt/kde3/share/autostart/compiz.desktop" is still not present. I suspect this is my autostart problem. Where can I find "/opt/kde3/share/autostart/compiz.desktop" and will installing it manually fix the autostart problem? -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E. I'm way late on this thread. Anyways, did you do ALT-F2 and run "compiz -replace". (minus the quotes) This makes it autostart here with Kubuntu. About 4 desktops, you can also increase those if you run the CompizConfig Settings Manager and go to General Options -> Desktop Size and change the Horizontal Virtual Size to say 6 or 8. I have mine set at 6, which gives me a 6 sided cube. Also, if you run KDE you have to go into your Configure Desktop -> Multiple Desktops and change it to 1. I don't know if this is required in Gnome or not. Also, a real good resource of information is available on the Compiz forums. http://forum.compiz-fusion.org/ (although I'm sure you've found those by now. ;) Dana -- A mind is like a parachute. Dana, If I do "compiz --replace" it fries compiz. The reason being that it creates the link /usr/lib/libIndirectGL.so.1 -> libIndirectGL.so.1.2. My system will not ever start with /usr/lib/libIndirectGL.so.1 present on the system. I have pulled my hair out over this. The only cure is the mv /usr/lib/libIndirectGL.so.1 /usr/lib/libIndirectGL.so.1.old. Then the system will start compiz once I manually start fusion-icon. Go figure........... -- David C. Do you have an equivalent of sessions in kde? If so is compiz in there?
The funny thing about kde session manager is NO I cannot select compiz there. There is only one greyed out option for kwin. I think this is part of the problem, but I don't know how to cure it. My fusion-icon script is: 22:13 Rankin-P35a~/.config/compiz> cat fusion-icon [compiz options] indirect rendering = true loose binding = false [window manager] active wm = compiz Which is fine since I'm using the new 8.42.3 driver with AIGLX. My install is: 22:13 Rankin-P35a~/.config/compiz> rpm -qa | grep compiz compiz-emerald-themes-0.6.0-1.1 python-compizconfig-0.6.0-1.3 compiz-fusion-plugins-main-0.6.0-2.1 compiz-fusion-plugins-unsupported-0.6.0-1.3 compiz-0.6.2-2.1 compiz-manager-0.0.1_git071019-13.1 compiz-kde-0.6.2-2.1 compiz-emerald-0.5.2_git070825-1.4 compizconfig-settings-manager-0.6.0-1.4 libcompizconfig-0.6.0-1.3 compiz-fusion-plugins-extra-0.6.0-1.3 From what I understand, with compiz-manager, I should get autostart, but it doesn't. Further, the compiz-manager script does not seem to be calling fusion-icon, even though it is supposed to: 22:17 Rankin-P35a~/.config/compiz> grep fusion-icon /usr/bin/compiz-manager FUSION_ICON=`which fusion-icon` if [ x$FUSION_ICON = "x/usr/bin/fusion-icon" ] ; then The concatenation of the x/ seems to be OK for that purpose. I'll keep testing and see if I can fix it. If you can think of anything else, I would appreciate your thoughts! -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E.
