[opensuse] KDE4.2 Plasma problems
Hi, Since the last update, plasmas, a lot of plasmas, does not work. A message is showed "The object could not be created for the following reason: Could no find requested component: plasma_applet_xxx", where xxx is the of the plasma. Also, other programs I insert in Desktop is no more work when click the icon. More, several "empty" icons is showed in the panel on start. Some suggestion? The easiest was is: opens a konsole and as user do: kquitapp plasma rm ~/.kde/share/config/plasma* plasma This will delete! all your plasma configs and give you the default look, which you can then adjust. I have done this. But next time I log out/in, the empty icons are back. Luckily, it seems the icons I want are now also there. I am guessing each time there is a kde4 update, one should (1) update kde (2) log out / in (3) do the kquitapp thing, (4) set up the panel again. Until they sort out whatever it is in the config files that are confusing things all the time. -- Roger Oberholtzer OPQ Systems / Ramböll RST Ramböll Sverige AB Krukmakargatan 21 P.O. Roger, For your info, I had the same problem, did exactly what you did, and remain exactly as you are now. If you find the answer please report it on the list. I will do likewise. Which icons? The default ones? If you do the kquitapp etc. and restart plasma, you should only get the default icons. Is that the case? After that, if you do kquitapp plasma and restart plasma again, without deleting, do the default icons show up as empty? Interjecting here: I have the same problem.

Don't know if they are supposed to be the default icons or not They appear as a document icon with nothing in them. The only icon that shows up is the trash can.

No, the same empty icons reappear.
After that, if you do kquitapp plasma and restart plasma again, without deleting, do the default icons show up as empty?
This is on 11.1 with 4,2 on x86_64. Bob S -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

If you place the analogue clock plasmoid on the desktop and then do the above, does it reappear or is it gone? Sven -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Here is what seemed to work for me. Based on a post on the OpenSUSE forums, you compare the files .kde4/share/config/plasmarc and .kde4/share/config/plasma- appletsrc. Look for lines similar to example shown below in each file (which correspond to your panel icons) and make sure that they are the same. In my case I had some extra's in plasma-appletsrc which I deleted (you need to delete both stanzas [Containments][#] [Applets][#] and its related configuration [Containments][#] [Applets][#][Configuration]). Once I did this The "empty" icons were removed. Also the matching applets (ones that exist in both files should have same values for the Url= reference.
