That's right you lovely people, as you may have noticed, the mad monkeys at Ximian have got Evolution 1.2 out of the door, and I've now finished building it for SuSE 8.1 This is a major upgrade, so there are some dependencies that you'll need to get, which are downloadable with Evolution itself. In addition spell checking doesn;t work at the moment, I'm working on that. Since it's a major upgrade, I recommend that you backup your $HOME/evolution directory before installing. You may even need (as I did) to delete all your mail folders and then import them - weird, but there you go... You can get it from www.usr-local-bin.org James -- James Ogley, Unix Systems Administrator, Pinnacle Insurance Plc james.ogley@pinnacle.co.uk www.pinnacle.co.uk +44 (0) 20 8731 3619 Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 8.1) Updated GNOME RPMs for SuSE Linux: www.usr-local-bin.org ********************************************************************** CONFIDENTIALITY.This e-mail and any attachments are confidential and may also be privileged. Ximian has released a SuSE 8.1 version already which works nicely.
In addition spell checking doesn;t work at the moment, I'm working on that.
Their version already has spell (and pilot) working "out of the box" so to speak.

I uninstalled 1.0.8 and backed-up by mail folders, but after installing 1.2, it picked everything backup including my vfolders, subfolders, un/read email, filters, et al. without incident.
You can get it from www.usr-local-bin.org
I noticed you create a lot of files for SuSE, and although I don't use them, thank you for all your hard work.

Thanks James :). Alternatively you can grab this Monkey from Ximian using the red-carpet tool: http://www.ximian.com/products/redcarpet/download.html Again, has a lot of new dependencies! Just wait for Ximian Desktop 2.0 and all its associated dependencies. Had the same issue with Spell Checking, will create a case with Ximian I think as it was broken in the previous Ximian Evolution too (and hey I can spell check with Squirrelmail). Matt

Yeah, thing is that a lot people (such as I) won't touch Red Carpet with a barge-pole. I remember when it decided it had to reinstall half my installation of SuSE. Oh I completely love the value of having choices :). Got burnt once
before, but I'm a sucker for punishment (or a sucker for trying to get
them stop releasing things that end up doing as you noted).
Need to look more into apt...

Once again, curiosity was my strongest thriving force and I immediately dled and installed 1.2 .... Ran oaf-slay once after installing and after that, on a restart of Evolution, all old folders were available. No import necessary. Cheers .... Yeah, I think my circumstances were unusual, but for some reason this happened to me, and I thought it only fair to let people know ahead of them trying the packages. Anyone using my packages who would like to provide feedback for the site, please mail me. -- James Ogley, Unix Systems Administrator, Pinnacle Insurance Plc james.ogley@pinnacle.co.uk www.pinnacle.co.uk +44 (0) 20 8731 3619 Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 8.1) Updated GNOME RPMs for SuSE Linux: www.usr-local-bin.org ********************************************************************** CONFIDENTIALITY.This e-mail and any attachments are confidential and may also be privileged.
