I have a machine that dual-boots sue linux and windows 98. My housemate uses windows to download mp3s from napster. I challenged him to see if it would work in linux. Well i downloaded a file or two, and they sounded broken and crackly etc in xmms, but the same files sound ok in windows, winamp. The sound in this machine is on the motherboard, a Crystal PnP, and i use the driver that comes with the kernel, just uncommented that part in the config file. Streaming audio from a radio station sounds fine in realplayer, but mp3s sound equally bad as in xmms. What should i do to improve the quality of mp3s in linux? -- Bob Rea Freedom is only privilege extended unless enjoyed by one and all --Billy Bragg rear@sirius.com rrea@askjeeves.com http://www.sirius.com/~rear -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
Dear Bob, I wasn't sure whether to respond to your message on the KDE or SuSE list, so I'll respond to both. Just as a test, have you tried opening the MP3's in kmpg (think that's the name of it)? Perhaps something is wrong with you copy of XMMS. Although, I have run XMMS out of the box on a SuSE 6.4 system with excellent results (better than Windows, perhaps). -Tim ----------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy R. Hello Timothy, I think Play MP3 is "kmp3".. I ever tried download kmp3 in SuSE 6.4 ftp, but it's same version on SuSE 6.2 So I download the Source in Kde ftp site, It;s now version 1.0 and have own website www.kmp3.org, It's as good as XMMS Monday, June 19, 2000, 9:16:38 AM, you wrote: TRB> Dear Bob, TRB> I wasn't sure whether to respond to your message on the KDE or SuSE list, TRB> so I'll respond to both. Hi Syeh, Thanks for the info. I had tried a previous version, perhaps I'll try the newer one too. -Tim ----------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy R.
