[S.u.S.E. Linux] was: pppd damon crashing: can't get onto the net
Several people suggested that I remove the word "lock' from the file /etc/ppp/options, and then try to get kppp working again. This did the trick, and this reply is coming via Netscape Communicator 4.04's E-Mailer under the KDE desktop in SuSE Linux 5.2. Thanks to everyone who offered help in this matter! I now know that choosing SuSE was the right move for this Linux newbie. I'm ever moving closer to going MS free!!!! Yippee!!! Was your ?etc/ppp/options empty? Completly? Because I have been pppin' for months with various distos and only now am having a hard with kppp. I hoped your trouble would lead to my answer, but I do not think so. Thanks loads. lsayre wrote:

I use Applix 4.3 and it import fine. . . just use the Word 6.0 format option. M$ hasn't changed the file format in quite some time . . . one of their better desicisons. - mikeh

really?? I've know I've imported Word97 files in Applix . . . anyway, IMHO, that is your fault for using an M$ product <grin> - mikeh -- ============================================================================== || Mike Hostetler || || <A HREF="http://www.binary.net/thehaas"><A HREF="http://www.binary.net/thehaas</A">http://www.binary.net/thehaas</A</A>> || || email1: mhostetl@cse.unl.edu || || email2: thehaas@binary.net || ============================================================================== || `When you say "I wrote a program that crashed Windows", people just || || stare at you blankly and say "Hey, I got those with the system, || || *for free*".' - Linus Torvalds || ============================================================================== -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

I got the question from a person who wanted to introduce it into a shop where they currently have Word97. So for him, it's pretty important. -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
