Chris Roberts, Bryan Tyson and Jostein Berntsen, I very much appreciate your responses to my question about fonts. I'd been about 75% certain that the fundamental difficulty here had to do with font selection and Jostein's reply would tend to confirm that. Frankly, I hate to have to fiddle with something like this, but I doubt if I'd ever feel entirely comfortable with 8.0 unless I do.
