I have seen there is the same problem of the previous versions of OpenSuSE also into 12.3. The problem is: If you try to upgrade from a DVD an OpenSuSE with software raid (mdadm), the installer don't see the previous version of openSuSE on the hard disk.

This is caused because the kernel don't recognize correctly the md arrays. In example, if i have md0 (/ root file system), md1 (/var), md2 (/srv), the installer see this as md125, md126 and md127.

This is because 1.x is now default superblock format. It includes host name; when you boot from DVD there is no hostname (or it is most likely different), so mdadm sees arrays as "foreign".

So, no DVD upgrade possible for this machines. I have tryied to edit manually the fstab on the machine, adapting to what the installer see, but after the upgrade the system becomes un-bootable.

Anyone have a good workaround for this problem?

Someone who has such system should finally open bug report and provide installer logs. Otherwise odds it gets fixed are rather low.

I ran into this problem too. I normally install two small /boot and two 40-GB or so / partitions on all of my boxes. This allows me to install a new release and still be able to boot back to the previous. But my first 12.3 install was on a box with two 500-GB disks mdraided together. The install just saw one disk and messed up the sizes, if I remember correctly. I was in a hurry and didn't take notes... My short-term solution was to install a third 1-TB disk and install 12.3 directly. Once the install was finished I was able to mount the old mdraid as /dev/md126p3 (for example) and pulled the necessary config info into the new install. My long-term solution is to not use mdraid for bootable partitions anymore. They always made me nervous anyway...
