hello ! re my brother in law. he made lspci -vv and got some stuff he will send to me by EMail. When I ll get it, i 'll mail it here myself. In the meantime I got this info : HAYES (TM) ACCURA PCI V92 PnP on board DSP compatible V90 service. lspnp gave answer command unknown, probably not implemented under 7.1. on my own bash, the answer is the same. Rgds to all Jacek

That's what we need to know. What's the verdict on this modem?

No problem; it's an optional package. We don't need it anyway, since we already know that the modem is PCI. ===== -- -=|JP|=- Hit me! - http://www.xanga.com/cowboydren/ Jon Pennington | Debian 2.3 -o) cowboydren @ yahoo . com | Auto Enthusiast /\\ Kansas City, MO, USA | ICQ UIN 69 67 29 31 _\_V __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? It errored because it's lspci..no lspnp. Give 'lspci --vv | more' a try..it should work just fine. :)
Look, dumbass, I said lspnp and that's what I meant. It's a part of isapnptools on a Debian system, and I know I've seen it on a SuSE box, so it's very real indeed. I'm tired of you breakin' in on conversations that ain't none of your business! *laugh* Well, you know them thar Debian guys..there weird. ;)
I resemble that remark.
Sorry, I had never heard of such a tool. lspci does the same thing...dorkass. :)
Since when does lspci check devices on the ISA-PnP bus? ===== -- -=|JP|=- Hit me! - http://www.xanga.com/cowboydren/ Jon Pennington | Debian 2.3 -o) cowboydren @ yahoo . com | Auto Enthusiast /\\ Kansas City, MO, USA | ICQ UIN 69 67 29 31 _\_V __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? This is getting silly. Wakeup, Ben! In the first message, we didn't know if it was PCI or ISA, so I offered lspci and lspnp to find it. lspci found it, so that part of the discussion was over. Then you chime in with this "lspci dies the same thing..." crap, which I feel compelled to dispute. One more time for the archives: If you don't know if your modem is PCI or ISA, and YaST can't configure it automatically, there are two tools to secure; lspci and lspnp. lspci comes in pciutils, and lspnp comes in isapnptools. If lspci identifies your modem, half the work is done. If it's not a PCI modem, check lspnp's results. If neither lspci, lspnp, nor YaST know wtf your modem is, pack up your computer, ship it back for a refund, and take up basketweaving. Amatuer Linux computing is not for you. ===== -- -=|JP|=- Hit me! - http://www.xanga.com/cowboydren/ Jon Pennington | Debian 2.3 -o) cowboydren @ yahoo . com | Auto Enthusiast /\\ Kansas City, MO, USA | ICQ UIN 69 67 29 31 _\_V __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? lspnp isn't included in suse's distribution. The man page for it is though. pnpdump or cat /proc/bus/isapnp/* perhaps. And incidentally, I don't care if you and Ben are chums from kindergarten. That last paragraph, whether you intended it or not, was directed at the original questioner. And if you address newbies coming to this list for help that way, perhaps ml-admin should unsub you?! //Anders On Thursday 08 November 2001 02.27, Jon Pennington wrote:

My mistake, it used to be. I haven't even owned an ISA device for over a year, though, so you'll please forgive me.
That last paragraph, whether you intended it or not, was directed at the original questioner.
No it wasn't. The original questioner isn't half done with his problem yet, and we're still working on it. I just went off on a bit of a tangent there with Ben. To noodle this back on-topic, we next need to figure out if the Hayes PCI modem he listed has any critical HSP components. If it's a pure hardware device, it'll simply be a matter of pointing the PCI device to something that the Linux kernel can use. I'm still open to comments on the modem itself...
And if you address newbies coming to this list for help that way, perhaps ml-admin should unsub you?!
I recognize your name and your email address, but don't necessarily know you. I'm sorry you have such a quick temper, but my helpfulness to newbies and experienced admins alike stands on it's own (check the archives for -=|JP|=-). Unfortunately, humor doesn't translate well via plain text. If you take anyone's words on this list via email even half as seriously as you appear to be now, perhaps *you* should find a hobby. Real people have real problems with real computers all the time. Real businesses suffer, real paychecks are at stake, and real families go hungry when things don't go right at work. Even at that, if you don't have a sense of humor about it all, *especially* if your job is sorting out computer problems for a living, you will die a bitter, lonely person; that's the most serious matter of all. The original poster, IIRC, is a home user trying to sort another home user's problems out as a gift of kindness. With that in mind, joking is easy. If you came to us with a mission-critical problem, I assure you that I, for one, would save the jokes for the EOT message. It's all a matter of taking things in perspective, so lighten up. ===== -- -=|JP|=- Hit me! - http://www.xanga.com/cowboydren/ Jon Pennington | Debian 2.3 -o) cowboydren @ yahoo . com | Auto Enthusiast /\\ Kansas City, MO, USA | ICQ UIN 69 67 29 31 _\_V __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
