I have an old firewall computer setup on RH 7.0 (like I said, it's old, I did it a long time ago!) and used IP chains (or tables...what ever the old style was), but it's been working fine. I'd like to change it over to SuSE and make it just a firewall box. Can I do this with 8.2? 8.0 had a firewall install option, but I didn't notice it in 8.2. Thanks, Tom

8.0 had a firewall install option, but I didn't notice it in 8.2.

SuSE 8.2 uses an IPtables based firewall (can someone else confirm)? Using yast2, and some patience, the firewall can be configured easily enough. After configuring, try using the services of various websites to test the firewall. The various tests should return ports as being "blocked". LW999

Actually it is an Iptables based packet filter which is statefull for an alternative documentation see http://surceforge.net/projects/susefaq for the manual of SuSEfirewall2 And as far as I can remember with minimal install you may need to add the package (though I may be wrong ) -- Togan Muftuoglu Unofficial SuSE FAQ Maintainer http://dinamizm.ath.cx

Thank you Togan. I use the firewall but do not know the technical details fully. :):) LW999
