Disregard my first post. I was able to repair with install disk. Seems the boot loader was corrupted. Several attempts at the repair option on the "ftp" install got it working right. Thanks anyway. :-)
Hi How come that if the manual states that IPX is compiled into the kernel(SIC) after modifying marsnwe according to the manual it cannot find this already present and socalled kernel-module Does suse 9.1 support items that are not there or do i need to configure it prior to placing the binaries onto the harddisk. If so how does one configure something that is not there? Greetings Peter

Functionality that is "compiled into the kernel" will not show as a module because modules are "inserted" into the kernel -not- compiled in. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989 SuSE since 1998 * Only reply to the list please*
Hi
Thank you for your quick response
However if i modify marsnwe then i get a message "insmod -k :ipx: no such
file or folder" modprobe(.conf) or its equivalent in SuSE 9.1 refers to a
file on the hard disk
Therefore i suppose that the kernel does not support IPX which is in clear
and obvious contrast with the manual.
Either the manual and or SuSE is incorrect in stating that this is supported
or the kernel is defective. In either case i've purchased something that is
less than complete
Greetings
Peter
ps
in suse 9.0 with a lower kernel version
masnwe works like a charm
is kernel 2.4 better and more complete than 2.6?
i think so

Exactly what do you mean by "modify"? What did you do? The above syntax for insmod is wrong for 2.6 kernels, and where do the : come from? I don't see anything like it in the marsnwe docs in 9.1 Try simply "modprobe ipx" as root on a command line.

There is a third case that you haven't considered

Not surprising since you're using 2.4 syntax in the insmod command.

Please DO NOT reply to the list and the person trying to help you. This is why some people are complaining about getting double messages. Try using modprobe instead of insmod. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989 SuSE since 1998 * Only reply to the list please*
