[S.u.S.E. Linux] trouble with sendmail or a nameserver
Hello, people !! I hope somebody could help me with this... it's a lot of text, but the question is very short ;-) We have the following problem: We use WWW-MAIL.pl v2.1 (<A HREF="http://www.econ.cbs.dk/vejrum/www-mail.html"><A HREF="http://www.econ.cbs.dk/vejrum/www-mail.html</A">http://www.econ.cbs.dk/vejrum/www-mail.html</A</A>>) to access mailboxes on the webserver via browser... (like hotmail) I'm a student in a highschool that also administrates the "prov-liege.be" domain; the webserver is www.student.prov-liege.be (it's also the DNS server for the "student" sub-domain)... Now, Receiving mail works great... The script can even POP another server than the webserver on the Internet. *but*, when we try to _send_ a mail from the CGI, it doesn't work :-(( and we had loats of error messages in /var/log/mail) At first, we noticed a " May 13 15:11:37 www sendmail[13775]: NOQUEUE: Authentication-Warning: www.student.prov-liege.be: wwwrun@www.student.prov-liege.be [193.190.122.20] didn't use HELO protocol May 13 15:11:37 www sendmail[13775]: PAA13775: from=jp, size=0, class=0, pri=0, nrcpts=0, proto=SMTP, relay=wwwrun@www.student.prov-liege.be [193.190.122.20] May 13 15:11:37 www sendmail[13773]: NOQUEUE: SYSERR: putoutmsg (www.student.prov-liege.be): error on output channel sending "500 Command unrecognized: "Errors-To: jp <jp@jp.com>"": Broken pipe /\/\/\/\/\snip/\/\/\/\/\snip/\/\/\/\/\snip/\/\/\/\/\snip (loats of 'em) /\/\/\/\/\snip/\/\/\/\/\snip/\/\/\/\/\snip/\/\/\/\/\ May 13 15:11:37 www sendmail[13773]: NOQUEUE: SYSERR: putoutmsg (www.student.prov-liege.be): error on output channel sending "421 www.student.prov-liege.be Too many bad commands; closing connection": Broken pipe " --> "didn't use HELO protocol", and we checked... well, the cgi really didn't use HELO, so we added it... and then (well, almost then ;-)), it worked !! BUT (and here it comes...) => we sent a mail to an account I have at hotmail.com and, strangeliy, the sender's email is: gavagec@prov-liege.be but it should be gavagec@student.prov-liege.be !! (gavagec is the sender) It seems that ns.prov-liege.be takes that "student" off the URL !!! Can that be ?? We have (almost) no control on ns.prov-liege.be :-( Now, =====> my question is <=====... is it #sendmail# who does that, or is it #ns.prov-liege.be# ? (ns.pro... to me :-| ) How could I find that out ? This might help, I have that header in my hotmail box :
From gavagec@prov-liege.be Fri May 15 04:58:07 1998 Received: by ns.prov-liege.be; (5.65v4.0/1.3/10May95) id AA05991; Fri, 15 May 1998 13:57:24 +0100 Received: from www.student.prov-liege.be by ns.prov-liege.be (smtpxd); id XA00352 Received: (from root@localhost) by www.student.prov-liege.be (8.8.8/8.8.8/Niddle - 27/04/98) id NAA31003
(and it's not hotmail, because we tried that with another remote mailbox, too - does the same) Pascal /nick SuSE52 on #linux (IRCnet) root on www.student.prov-liege.be -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
