I just got around to upgrading my desktop SUSE 8.0 system to 8.1, and I discovered that now I can't mount CD's. I went to the SDB, and followed the directions to add cdrom and ide-cd to the initrd, ran mk_initrd, ran lilo, rebooted. I still can't mount CD-ROMs, only now the error message is mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/cdrom, or too many mounted file systems ...where before it said mount: /dev/cdrom - no such file or directory ...this is a driver CD delivered with a Belkin UPS I just purchased. I was successful in mounting and reading it under 8.0 (It actually includes a fairly robust upsd implementation for Linux!) Just for a sanity check, I just tried to mount the SuSE 8.1 CD#1, and it was successful, so it must have something to do with the format of the belkin CD. If this isn't iso9660, what might it be? Were there any fstypes deleted in 8.1? -- Rick Green "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." -Benjamin Franklin
I just experienced the same problem, updating my HP Omnibook laptop from 8.0 to 8.1 - the machine won't recognize/mount the DVD I used to do the update! What happened? How to fix it? On Sunday 01 December 2002 21:43, Rick Green wrote:

Maybe this will help http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/81_ide-scsi.html But then - at least I got a problem which is still not solved - suse recognizes the dvd, but yast doesn't recognize the dvd anymore for installation. How can I manually tell yast what installation medium to take? best Adrian

Adrian, I'm kind of getting in on the end of this thread, but did you change the drive somehow? If so you need to go into yast2.software>change source of installation. yast is still looking for the old drive. Just delete the old source, and create a new one. I just checked you could probably disable the current one and create the new one.Just in case something goes wrong. -- Franklin Maurer <nebbish@sprynet.com>

That is exactly what I did.
and create a new one.
The when I try to create a new one, I get the following error message from yast: Error Unable to create installation source from URL 'dvd:///'. Details: ERROR(Media:mount failed) And then I am not able to use Yast anymore for installations... Adrian
