I'm running XFree86-3.3.4 on SuSE-6.2 on a Compaq Deskpro. I've a problem with X, or specifically, a problem with VT consoles after I've started X. I'm using the XF86_S3V Xserver for my S3 ViRGE/DXGX graphics card and X works fine. But when I hit Ctrl-Alt-Fn to switch to a VT it's all corrupted: the whole text screen seems shifted to the right by a few inches and the text is a jumbled mess. This didn't bother me as I don't use VTs much, but my X is unstable. After a few days it'll just crash, locking the display and keyboard completely (no num/caps lock even). I haven't seen a pattern to what causes the crash. I can get in across the network to reboot, but it's not an ideal position. I've tried using the XF86_SVGA server which is supposd to support my chipset, but that does the same thing, plus has corruptions and artifacts in X. I've twiddled with acceleration, bit depths, and other such things but I can't stop it corrupting the VTs. Has anyone seen this, or does anyone know if a later XFree solves the problem? -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
