All that trouble ;-) and my computer still doesn't shutdown when I shutdown SuSE :-( Only one setting in my Soyo Dragon Plus! motherboard BIOS, so I can't change anything there. Any ideas, anyone? Nils' original instructions before compiling were as follows:
> Start up menuconfig or xconfig. > In General Setup > Power management > ACPI Support set Y > ACPI Bus management set Y > System set Y > Processor set Y
At least it doesn't reboot on shutdown like it used to. Brian

One thing pops up in my mind, have you checked if there is an upgrade for your bios? Rgds Nisse

yeap :) general setup -> apm bios support -> And I do not even guarantee this will solve your problem, it's a matter of both kernel version and mainboard manufacturer. Brian Durant wrote:

Where does this need to be setup? Are we talking kernel crunching again? Anybody?

I finally built up the nerve to take another look at this in the kernel ;-) There is no such (CONFIG_APM_REAL_MODE_POWER_OFF) option in SuSE 7.3 kernel. I am using NVidia drivers, don't know if this has an effect on the options listed in general setup -> apm bios support: 1) Ignore USER SUSPEND 2) Enable PM at boot time (enabled) 3) Make CPU Idle calls when idle 3) Enable console blanking using APM (enabled) 4) RTC stores time in GMT 5) Allow interrupts during APM BIOS calls (enabled) Cheers, Brian
