That leads to two questions:
1. What does `ec' stand for, and where are the `ec' fonts?
Not sure. The dc were beta. "e" comes after "d"... You can always get everything TeX-related from the CTAN archives. 3 primaries (ftp.dante.de is one), heaps of mirrors.
2. Where would one find the source files for regenerating the dvi files?
In the tetex distribution, which contains latex and everything else. Just install it from your SuSE CDs... I have no idea how you can get howto-dvis using dc fonts, unless they are eitehr very old or the latex installation used to generate them is very old. AFAIK all howtos (definitely the dvi) are generated from some master file automatically. I would expect all you need to do that to be on the SuSE CDs, though I never checked.
