I tried hard to make Linux client with kernel 2.4.2 (SuSE 7.1) write to NFS share exorted from Solaris 2.5 box. Sheesh! I don't see that the problem has been addressed in 2.4.3. When kernel 2.2.18 is booted on the same machine there is not a sign of any problem writing to the same share. It's not a problem with the kernel. The 'rpc.lockd' daemon is not necessary under 2.4, so it's not necessary to run it.

No, don't just paste it, either. Locate the line with "checkproc -n lockd || /usr/sbin/rpc.lockd" or similar line in the file /etc/rc.d/nfsserver and edit it so it is surrounded by the if statement like the above. -- Rafael
