For example, can you identify what video format is being used? (I don't know how I might do that.) Knowing the format might offer a clue to a missing plugin or helper application.
may be you should use last firefox? I could even download the clip (the advertisement and the usefull clip are two flv), here what mediainfo say: General Complete name : /home/jdd/temp/upl523722.flv Format : Flash Video File size : 10.9 MiB Duration : 2mn 51s Overall bit rate : 532 Kbps Video Format : VP6 Duration : 2mn 51s Bit rate : 400 Kbps Width : 320 pixels Height : 240 pixels Display aspect ratio : 4/3 Frame rate : 25.000 fps Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.208 Stream size : 8.17 MiB (75%) Audio Format : MPEG Audio Format version : Version 1 Format profile : Layer 3 Duration : 2mn 51s Bit rate mode : Constant Bit rate : 96.0 Kbps Channel(s) : 2 channels Sampling rate : 44.1 KHz Resolution : 16 bits Stream size : 1.96 MiB (18%) jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://valerie.dodin.org http://news.opensuse.org/2009/04/13/people-of-opensuse-jean-daniel-dodin/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

It was no different with the previous FF either. But seeing that it is a Flash format, I thought to update the existing flash plugin, and I think the inability to do this may indicate the source of the problem. The existing flash plugin is v10.0.r32. The current one is v10.0.32.18-release. When I tried to update using YaST, I got the following message: ***** Error: Following packages have not been found on the medium flash-plugin ***** Then I downloaded Adobe's rpm, which is <flash-plugin-10.0.32.18-release.i386.rpm>, and tried to install it in a terminal. This got the response that "package flash-plugin-10.0.32.18-release.i386 is already installed". Yet about:plugins shows, even after reloading FF,: ***** Shockwave Flash File name: npwrapper.libflashplayer.so Shockwave Flash 10.0 r32 ***** YaST shows that the new release is installed, but that entry is written in red characters, which I don't know how to interpret. I know that the clips on the CNN site are also in Flash, and I can view them with no difficulty, so the question remains why I can't see the ones in question.
