I am trying to change the default menu and splash screen resolutions, since they are coming up in a very "cringly" 800x600 on my 1024x768 lcd. I have change vga=0x314 to 0x317, which gives me a better console resolution, but now I get no splash screen, and dmesg has a line about "unable to find valid signature" when searching for the splash screen. /etc/bootsplash/ seems to have screens of varying resolutions including the desired 1024x768, but what do I poke to make it pick up the right one? ALso the vga change has done nothing to improve the resolution of the grub graphical menu (which isn't surprising since it comes before that stage), so how do I change that? I have ploughed through the Grub man pages, but haven't found what I seek! Just run again mkinitrd and you'll get a splash screen at boot. Michel.

The splash screen is put into the initrd, so you'd need to re-run /sbin/mkinitrd to get the new resolution.

Not sure about that one, I suspect you would have to play with the file /boot/message, have a look at the gfxboot package and mkbootmsg

I thought gfxboot was a lilo thing! mkbootmsg doesn't seem to exist in 9.2 (tried yast searching the DVD) -- Tim Nicholson http://www.bbc.co.uk/ This e-mail (and any attachments) is confidential and may contain personal views which are not the views of the BBC unless specifically stated. It's in the gfxboot package, gfxboot is used to design the boot selection screen, if you check the grub info page you'll see a reference to it
