I assume this is gonna be real easy for someone :-) I am trying to install or rather compile a package (namely v0.6 of ScribuS) and it requires me to compile, something I've never done before. So first of all I run "./configure" and I get all this stuff up culminating in something like "no suitable C++ compiler found in path". OK so I install the gcc compiler using YaST2, but still it doesn't work, I test by typing 'gcc' at the command line and it says bno parameters so I assume this means that it IS installed correctly but I guess I haven't got the correct compiler installed ... is gcc C++ or only C? Any help appreciated :-) James C. Rocks Equant Archway House Canary Wharf London E14 9SZ Phone: 0207-5226856 Fax: 0207-5126087 Mobile Phone: 07771-767405 http://www.equant.com

Gcc is much more than a C compiler (c, c++, Obj C, Java, Fortran, etc...), but it is separated into a few packages in SuSE. The g++ component is in the package gpp. Charles -- Dijkstra probably hates me (Linus Torvalds, in kernel/sched.c)
Could you please advise what the packages are, and which you need to do do what? Thanx! At 08:13 07/15/2002 -0400, Charles Philip Chan wrote:

First of I would like to mention that GCC does not stand for the GNU C compiler anymore. It is now an acronym for GNU Compiler Collection. The SuSE packages are: gcc ==> C compiler gpp ==> C++ g77 ==> Fortran compiler gobjc ==> Objective C compiler gjava ==> Java compiler This is off the top of my head since I don't have the SuSE version of GCC installed anymore. If anyone thinks I have missed out something or am incorrect, please feel free to jump in.
