[SLE] Updating packages and missing modules
I'm currently running suse 6.1, and a few days ago, I use YaST to update my packages. Along that I installed the kernel source. When I recompile, I was missing three modules. I managed to get the other two running, but I'm still getting an error message about modprobe unable to find char-major-4. Does anyone have any idea about this and what I should do? BTW I did use make mrproper, is it some setting in the kernel configuration that I accidentally turned off? For cases like these, consult our support database at
http://sdb.suse.de/sdb/en/html/index.html. In this case consult
http://sdb.suse.de/sdb/en/html/sf_seriell.html which seems to hit your nail
on the spot :)

This is normal. As far as I can tell it does not affect system performance in any way. You can get rid of the message by editing your /etc/conf.modules as follows. change alias char-major-4 serial to alias char-major-4 off Victor On Sun, 12 Mar 2000, calyth wrote:
