[SLE] SuSE 6.4 and USB
A quick question about the progress of USB. I have just spent the afternoon reinstalling 98 and a few apps on my multiboot machine. Win98 is only there because of a HP 4100 USB scanner. I am just about ready to replace 6.1 with 6.4 and would like to know if there is any chance of getting the scanner to work so I can get rid of 98 and the Maalox. Thanks Henry -- Linux doesn't break, Windows do. Should work with the USB support in SuSE Linux 6.4. Check out the SANE
webpage ( http://www.mostang.com if I remember correctly) for what's
eventually needed. AFAIR, the HP is the only USB scanner that's supported
because it uses SCSI protocoll over USB. But you'll have to do the
configuration by yourself. As HP is the only USB scanner currently supported
we did not include the configuration of USB scanners in YaST2 for 6.4.

There is a chance of getting it to work with 6.3, so I would presume the chances are at least as good - and probably slightly better - with 6.4. SuSE back-integerated the development USB drivers from the 2.3 kernel into the 2.2 kernel for their 6.3 release. However, as for specifics... I have none. I have not a single USB device. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
