[opensuse] Interesting "webpin" alternative solution
All, I just inadvertently typed:
osc se -s yara #################################################################### matches for 'yara' in projects:
# Project home:sjayaraman home:suryaraj17 #################################################################### matches for 'yara' in packages: # Project # Package home:gregfreemyer:Tools-for-forensic-boot-cd python-yara home:gregfreemyer:Tools-for-forensic-boot-cd yara security python-yara security yara ---------------------------- So that appears to have searched all of OBS for projects with "yara" in their name, and then for packages with "yara" in their name. I just some might find that of interest since webpin has been dead for a year or two. Couple of things 1) But that does not mean by default those packages are available for download or in what situation they are. 2) the average user would need to install osc and bunch of other required packages 3) that does not provide a 1 click install ( not that I am fond of it but some like it) Therefore to me still the best option is to use software.opensuse.org and use the search options if one is desperate for a package Togan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks for the cautionary information.
1) But that does not mean by default those packages are available for download or in what situation they are.

Not a drawback unless limited on space.
3) that does not provide a 1 click install ( not that I am fond of it but some like it)
Yes - I like it. Webpin never provided a 1-click and it was a fantastic index.
Therefore to me still the best option is to use software.opensuse.org and use the search options if one is desperate for a package
I find the search on software.opensuse.org very limited. Many times I have searched for a package and turned up no results only to have a listmember provide the link to the OBS project that already contains the rpms needed. -- David C. osc is indeed powerful. The main drawback is that it doesn't include packman, or other external repositories in its search. That was the benefit of webpin, it searched all known repos. To just search the build service, there is http://software.opensuse.org/search as well, for those who prefer a GUI Anders -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
