Yep. I read this on /. and they seem to be taking a particularly brain dead way of trying to combat it. And yes again, 99% of the spam I get is generated from AOL, Hotmail, and Yahoo accounts. The funny thing is even the spam that doesn't seem to be directly from any of these webmail services picked up dramatically after I renewed my Yahoo account in order to read the replacement news group junk for the now defunct LOKI games. I remember have problems accessing the quasi-Loki news site on Yahoo and reconfiguring my user profile to be able to read it. Well within the week I started getting spam (stuff like the Nigerian and South African, etc, claims about being the son of a diplomat or assassinated President and having money tied up in some foriegn acct that ony I can help them with - some ppl must be really trusting - - but I digress). Within a month I was getting loads of it, and even offers to BUY hundreds of thousands of email addresses that were gathered with a spider. It all happened after I set up my Yahoo account. So, it seems that all AOL and others need to do is look in their own backyard to find the culprits - but that might hurt their revenue. So, it's safe to say that this won't be stopping anytime soon (Idiots in the suits no doubt won't let the admins do what they should to "really" stop this crap). LOL! Cheers. Earthlink and Prolog do the same thing. I had to switch to my provider's smtp server. -- (o< //\ Powered by SuSE Linux V_/_ Virusproof. Crashproof. 8:22am up 8 days, 14:33, 33 users, load average: 1.68, 1.41, 1.22 processes 751339
Is there anyway I can configure my mail server (SuSE default postfix) to deliver mail direct for all email address apart from a selected list of domains that will be be delivered via my ISPs SMTP Server. Regards Adam On Sat, 2003-04-19 at 13:23, Robt. Miller wrote:

Yes. I use Sendmail, and this is how I have it set up: In /etc/mail/mailertable: # send email for all hosts below .sub.org to another host: #.sub.org smtp:host.domain.com aol.com smtp:Your.smtp.host netscape.net smtp:Your.smtp.host
Note that the smtp host is most likely going to be your ISP's host.
Also, .aol.com does not work.

This probably won't be of much help, but I know you can do this with Exchange, so I would imagine Postfix, qmail, sendmail, et al probably have a similar setting. I've only ever set Postfix to use a smart host for all delivery, never for a specific domain or domains. -- John LeMay KC2KTH Senior Enterprise Consultant NJMC | http://www.njmc.com | Phone 732-557-4848 Specializing in Microsoft and Unix based solutions

/etc/postfix/main.cf: transport_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/transport /etc/postfix/transport: aol.com smtp:mail.isp.tld hash transport and reload Postfix. There is a more elaborate way to do this, check the Postfix mailinglists archive. This subject has been covered a few days ago. Theo -- Theo v. This works perfectly for me, but... I added to /etc/postfix/transport (last line) aol.com smtp:smtp-server.indy.rr.com ran: postmap /etc/postfix/transport postfix reload sendmail -q and the three msg's to aolers in mailq that had been there for 4 days immediately went upon their merry way. tks, -- Patrick Shanahan Please avoid TOFU and trim >quotes< http://wahoo.no-ip.org Registered Linux User #207535 icq#173753138 @ http://counter.li.org Linux, a continuous *learning* experience

I think Supanet also do this. I had to start using my ISPs SMTP server to get mail there. Kept getting "Service Unavailable" errors when going direct. Sean Akers.

AOL just started rejected mail from my cable modem address. Last week they accepted it. Jeffrey
Are you running your own mail server and your IP belongs to an ISP? I read recently that AOL started refusing accepting such mail unless you go through your ISP's mail server. I guess this is their way to try to fight spam. Avi On Saturday, April 19, 2003, at 02:21 AM, Adam Leach wrote:
