sound question ...
Hi all.... I've got my system set up where I can record from my radio. Now I have a small problem that I've not found an answer to yet. When a program comes on the radio it's no problem to be ready to record it. But when I'm just listening to the radio and hear a song (for example) that I want to record it's too late to get it krecord and kmix running. It's either over or I've missed the first 2-3 minutes. What I was thinking about is can I set up a buffer that is say 5 to 15 minutes big and let it run in the background all the time. As it fills up it deletes the oldst, ie first in, first out. Then when I hear something on the radio that I want to keep I can just save the buffer. Anyway is there anyway of doing this? TIA! The only thing I have seen like this is a Windows program Loop Recorder. It is shareware and available at: http://www.looprecorder.de/ I am not even sure how I would roll my own in Linux. The best that could be done is to start recording and slice it up later. That would take a lot of drive space, which is not hard to come by these days. There are several programs out that can slice a wav or MP3 but it is generally a manual process. Maybe you can look at programs that are used to convert vinal or tape programs to mp3 by looking at pauses in the audio stream. Gramofil which is on the CD will record and split into tracks. It was made to do tapes and vinyl. I do not know if it will work for the original poster since he wants to use a buffer. -- Marshall "Nothing is impossible, we just do not have all the anwsers to make the impossible, possible."
