[opensuse] openOffice 3.1.1 - hanging on autosave & autocorrect reverses CAPS lock key
Listmates, Before I file bugs on the two issues, I would like to see if anyone else has encountered them. The two bugs are: (1) openOffice writer freezing (getting stuck, whatever -- dimmed and busy cursor) when it autosaves a document on the my local drive. (2) the autocorrect feature that corrects the Initial Capital Letters seems to have reversed my caps lock key. After the autocorrection, now I get lower case with the light for my caps lock key illuminated and UPPER CASE WHEN I SWITCH CAPS LOCKS OFF. (just end a sentence with a period and start typing in lower case) What gives? (this is kde4 -- of course... Ver 4.3.1 build 168 on OPENsUse 11.0) -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. Listmates,
Before I file bugs on the two issues, I would like to see if anyone else has encountered them. The two bugs are:
(1) openOffice writer freezing (getting stuck, whatever -- dimmed and busy cursor) when it autosaves a document on the my local drive.
Always. It hangs forever and can only be killed by SIGKILL or SIGUSR1. So I turned off autosave. It still gets stuck on something long enough to overflow the keyboard buffer and then I have to wait for it to catch up with me. Two vastly different machines, OpenSuSE10.3 and 11.0, KDE3.5, latest Ooo3.1 builds. It looks like this hang problem was introduced in that latest build because it didn't happen before and it wasn't so slow before, either. At least they stopped disabling the UIM and keeping me from entering non-USASCII text but maybe that will be "fixed" again with the next update. Again.
(2) the autocorrect feature that corrects the Initial Capital Letters seems to have reversed my caps lock key. After the autocorrection, now I get lower case with the light for my caps lock key illuminated and UPPER CASE WHEN I SWITCH CAPS LOCKS OFF. No. I never permit autocorrection. That's an embarrassment just waiting and praying to happen. (I miss my Smith Corona...) I'll file a bug report or addendum if/when I get access and time. == jd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Egads, that's what I thought. Another botched OO release :-( -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. Thanks a lot for the bug report. I lowered the autosafe limit to 1 minute, worked on an .odt document few minutes and it did not freeze. Then I waited one minute and killed the soffice.bin process. Finally, I started oowriter and it successfully recovered the last state. Do you see this problem with any document? -- Best Regards, Petr Mladek software developer --------------------------------------------------------------------- SUSE LINUX, s. r. o. e-mail: pmladek@suse.cz Lihovarská 1060/12 tel: +420 284 028 952 190 00 Prague 9 fax: +420 284 028 951 Czech Republic http://www.suse.cz/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Petr, Yes, pretty much. I'll upload the last document I was working on when it crashed to the bugzilla report above. After oo3.1.1 stuck on autosave, I re- installed 2.4 from the /updates repository and it "recovered" the document again after 3.1.1 had recovered it as well. It should be in the same state that it was when it crashed. All I did with the document was to "save" after recovery. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
