[opensuse] VMware player on OS 11.0 with BuildService kernel, anyone ?
Hello to all, I'm trying to get the VMware player running on an OpenSuSE 11.0 32bit where I upgraded the kernel to 2.6.27.4 from the BuildService (brand new Dell E6500 -- the Intel chipset is not fully supported by earlier kernels). I pulled the player RPM from the VMware site, and it installed flawlessly. When I start the player, it asks for the path to the kernel headers. I installed the full kernel.org sources for 2.6.27.4 below /usr/src, but I can't make the player accept those as matching my kernel. Has anyone succeeded in doing this ? TIA Cheers. Bye. Ph. There's probably a 2.6.27.4-x difference between the kernel rpm and the kernel source you got from kernel.org. You should be able to get the corresponding kernel-source package from the same repository where you got the kernel. There are plenty of 2.6.27.4 kernel packages at packages.opensuse-community.org. Or is there a reason why you specifically don't want to install the kernel-source package? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I think you should get the corresponding kernel-source rpm from the BuildService - I suppose they make it :-? - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
