SuSE 8.0 Still trying to get my apps, Konq, Kmail, FTP client, etc. to run once I am connected to my ISP. KPPP is up and running and connected - As a user when I try to connect any of these apps I get the message....Host "YourISP" unknown.. When I am running as root I can get Konq to connect. You also want to see if route.conf has the correct router. Examples from the connection I use are: resolv.conf ----- (ben@zeus) ~> cat /etc/resolv.conf [22:07 02-06-25] # # /etc/resolv.conf # #search concentric.net blackops.org nameserver 65.106.1.196 nameserver 207.155.183.72 nameserver 207.155.183.73 nameserver 207.155.184.72 nameserver 206.173.119.72 nameserver 205.158.26.242 route.conf ----- (ben@zeus) ~> cat /etc/route.conf [22:07 02-06-25] default 64.0.150.1 0.0.0.0 eth0 It's been 3 years since I had a dialup but I seem to remember this helping. Also..ditch the KDE dialer. It was crap then and with the amount of problems I see these days..must still be crap. Give wvdial a whirl. You can execute it as root using 'wvdial.tcl'. This worked great for me. -=Ben --=====-----=====-- mailto:ben@whack.org --=====-- Tell me what you believe..I tell you what you should see. -DP --=====-----=====--

Many thanks to all who tried to help,Basil,Sylvanus,& zentara, especially Ben and tabanna who put me on the right track for resolv.conf Mine was empty. Hand edited and put in my servers. Finally!! I have a working internet connection in Suse 8. Just don't know what some of us would do without this list. I know many wouldn't be running Suse. Thank You All ! Uhhhh.. Do I dare run SuSEconfig ???? Will it undo all of my handwork?? And if it does, what do I do in the future for apps that Yast installs? Ben, You suggested that I set up WVdial. Also tried that before I went to Kppp. Won't work. Not that important now that I have Kppp running but if you would like to help I would appreciate it. I don't know how it's handled in Suse8.0, but in 7.2 and earlier, you need to watch out for Modify_Resolv_Conf_Dynamically in the system configuration file. Set it to "no", or it may wipe your resolv.conf out. -- use Perl; #powerful programmable prestidigitation
