The SUSE manuals that you get when you buy the SUSE Pro package are a very good starting point.

Sorry, don't know the answer to that one.

Sounds like you might be using i.e. to download? I would try using ftp to download - once you've found a fast, local mirror in your web browser you can paste the string of the URI into your ftp client. But first, do 'bin' at the ftp prompt when connected to the site so that you're sure you're getting an an unmucked-about-with binary iso. Always use a mirror as suse's ftp site gets hit very hard by those who don't know that.

The problem is too much info as usual. The manuals are good, as someone has said, and come with SuSE if you buy it - you could also poke around on http://www.linuxquestions.org, intended to help the lost beginner. Also see http://www.linux.org/docs/ldp/howto/Installation-HOWTO/ HTH Fergus

When you download (useing windows), right click on the file and then click 'save to' and the file should save as an .iso. HTH. Mike

Hi, Andy... Surely you can 'play' with it on a spare pc with no raid to start out, right? SuSE will install automatically and pretty much run on anything close to a 'normal' pc. From personal experience I'd recommend you visit http://www.icon.co.za/~psheer/rute-home.html You can read the book online, download it or buy a printed copy; just keep a pot of coffee going once you get started. Use it to get that spare pc up and running because you'll want it for checking Linux features out while you're reading the book. You should also be aware, by now, about tldp.org and linuxquestions.org and several other sites such as these; just Google to find more. Finally, and most importantly, don't be put off by the modest learning curve. The joy of regaining mastery over your computer is priceless. I really love my work environment again, thanks to SuSE and the Linux community. I'll never buy another M$ product again. Hope some of this helps and welcome! - Carl Hartung 213,446 files and counting "Jello is never very interesting until it is set and sure of itself."
