** Here be Dragons friend , trod lightly ,lest you find yourself in a flame , w/ no breath mints handy. Amazingly it was pretty fast , faster than I had expected.. OF course there Were conflicts ( it uninstalled lame but didn't manage to install whatever it needed for grip to work not of oggs or mp3s... ) but I knew there would be , if one is in a hurry, or in male mode ( I don't need no stinking manuals , read ? piffle! or some suchlike words <VBG>) it *could* be problematic to resolve them .. <G> Now trying to do a clean install and I gotta tell ya, that is really wild .. Unselecting packages is more difficult than it need be , no doubt in a abundance of caution. Still It's annoying, and I think its somes sort of problem solving for "what went wrong" when a person calls Suse in a panic becasue they didn't find this or that ( it's been move to some other pkg? or something simular to that. And it will allow the nice calm person at the other end of the tellephone to walk them thru the fix... OR, as I used to do w/ earlier versions , start at teh bottom of teh software listings , then, by the time you get to the item ( like Heimdal or cups ) that will have 47 different items "depending" on it , all it's dependencies wil have removed from the installation ( request ) and it should be less traumatic to get thru ... but I could be wrong <G> For a Small company Most Docters ( medical or dental ) or SOHO this will do nicely , but it'll be a leetle testy round the place til each IT person learns the best technique ( for him) for beating up the computer <G> What is on display when the installation finishes it pretty slick, and it will be even nicer if natsy little gotchas from earlier versions have really been resolved by the involved choices ( or maybe I should try to add the software selection AFTER the base install ? I know what I need tho, and there is alot of stuff I don't want ( not running any servers , for instance ) BTW teh update actually took less than a full hour, tho had I spent time resolving all the problmes it would have been a while longer... oh yeah, they HAVE heard our cries ;-) and a few stickers are included , they look especially appropriate for covering up the windows stickers or even intel stickers... <VBG> The next big fun is going to see if it recognises the athlon that is installed here on this box, it's an XP 1700 ... and it's pretty quick, esp w/ a gig of ram ... Now to get a vidiot board w/ 128mgs on it!! !! ( the girl is getting giddy w/ all this power at her fingertips !! -- j afterthought All opinion expressed are my own - no one else believes them.
