well... I don't change it but anybody is allowed to do this. there is some sort of bashrc default. To have something reliable, one should probably go the openSUSE way, that is changing in sysconfig (eventually with YaST).

Of course, we can change it if we like. I do it sometimes. But his original complaint was that the prompt was displaying: "bob@linux-81s3 ~Documents", and that he did not know where that "~Documents" come from and doesn't want it. The real "problem" is not that it displays "~Documents", but that the current working directory is "~Documents". So changing the prompt is the wrong solution - IMO. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
