[SLE] Can't find modprobe?
Due to a disk crash. I had to reinstall 10.1. I need to activate a kernel sound module but it seems that modprobe is missing, and YaST doesn't list it. How do I get it? If modprobe were truly missing, you'd be in a world of hurt. Are you trying to use it as root? That's required. -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

Yep, it's in /sbin, which wouldn't be in a user's PATH normally. # rpm -qf `which modprobe` module-init-tools-3.2.2-32 Michael -- San Francisco, CA -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

/sbin certainly *should* be in root's path. You have something farkled somewhere. -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

I agree. What I said is that it wouldn't be in a *user*'s PATH normally.

That's a good bet. Michael -- San Francisco, CA -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com
