Hi all, I just downloaded ( 3.5hours ) the two redhat 7 isoimages in a directory ( partition web ) where I keep my downloads /web/redhat. This gave me /web/redhat/7.0-i386-disk1.iso I never use my CD writer ( my son does on windows ). How can I burn the cd with xcdroast or any other program in SUSE 7 and make them bootable aswell. My purpose is to install redhat on my sons computer to see if they recognize the geforce2GTS card and how they do it. I can then do the same with SuSE 7 and help some people having trouble with those kind of cards because I think that the main problem is situated in the AGP chipset and the Bios. So can anybody explain me how to do burning CD in linux ( not the installation of the software but only, step 1-2-3-4-5 ) thanks for any help Filip. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq

Shell tools are easy to explain. ;-)

I cannot say how to make ISO images bootable, IMHO they are or are not, but I don't know wether that can be changed easyly. To burn a cdrom try cdrecord -scanbus to find the ID of your burner (mine is i.e. 0,6,0) to burn a CD, I do cdrecord -v speed=4 dev=0,6,0 path/to/isoimagename.iso Juergen -- =========================================== __ _ Juergen Braukmann juergen.braukmann@gmx.de| -o)/ / (_)__ __ ____ __ Tel: 0201-743648 dk4jb@db0qs.#nrw.deu.eu | /\\ /__/ / _ \/ // /\ \/ / ===========================================_\_v __/_/_//_/\_,_/ /_/\_\ -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq

THANKS TO ALL, I tried everything you gave me, it's working for burning the CD The reply I got from xcdroast was : 1. Use xcdroast 0.98 ( actually included in RH7 ) 2. rename the .iso to .raw and put the file into image-data-path of xcdroast 0.96ex . Then do a write. The only thing now, is how to browse my CD because the only thing I see is the 7.0-i386-disk1.iso or raw file. ( 637 MB) I can browse the iso image in my partition /web/redhat/....... by doing the following : mount -o loop -t iso 9660 <7.0-i386-disk1.iso > <mountpoint> But the above statement doesn't work if I mount the cdrom with the CD where the iso image on to it. So, I'm stuck. I simply want to dowload an iso image from the web and make a bootable CD from it. Thanks for any futher help. Filip. Le mar, 26 sep 2000, Filip a écrit :

In what case I guess you burned the *imagefile* as a file to the CD. I was joking when I wrote about <shrudder> GUI's, but I guess the shell would have saved you a CDR. cdrecord -v dev=your_device speed=your_speed imagefile
I can browse the iso image in my partition /web/redhat/....... by doing the following : mount -o loop -t iso 9660 <7.0-i386-disk1.iso > <mountpoint>
yes. that works only foe a filesystem in a file.
But the above statement doesn't work if I mount the cdrom with the CD where the iso image on to it.
that would be mount -t iso9660 -r /dev/[cdromdevice] /mountpoint
So, I'm stuck. I simply want to dowload an iso image from the web and make a bootable CD from it. Thanks for any futher help.
I still guess it's already bootable.
Filip.

cdrecord -v dev=your_device speed=your_speed imagefile
make sure you run: cdrecord -scanbus to get your device first. When I run cdrecord -scanbus I get the following: Cdrecord 1.8 (i586-pc-linux-gnulibc1) Copyright (C) 1995-2000 Jörg Schilling Using libscg version 'schily-0.1' scsibus0: 0,0,0 0) 'IBM ' 'DORS-32160W ' 'WA6A' Disk 0,1,0 1) 'IBM ' 'DORS-32160W ' 'WA0A' Disk 0,2,0 2) * 0,3,0 3) * 0,4,0 4) * 0,5,0 5) * 0,6,0 6) 'YAMAHA ' 'CDR400t ' '1.0k' Removable CD-ROM 0,7,0 7) * Then my command is: cdrecord -v speed=4 dev=0,6,0 cd_image ^^^^^ And sub cd_image for 7.0-i386-disk1.iso The 0,6,0 is critical. It must match your cd device, hence the reason for running cdrecord -scanbus. I nw what was posted was correct, but some prople don't read anything unless they have an exact example written. -- Phillip Beal Evil Genius In Training Electrical and Computer Engineering "God, Root, what is difference?"
