K3b does not work with DVD-R/DVD-RAM drive
I got Panasonic LF-D310 drive. It is recognized by system. SuSE 8.2 even creates CD-R icon for it. In K3bSetup however it's shown only in reader's list. I cannot add it manually. I thought that maybe I need dvdrtools so I installed this package, no difference. Both cdrecord -scanbus and dvdrecord -scanbus can recognize my drive. XCDRoast on the other hand has no problems with detection but does not support DVD writting. Any hints? thanks Mariusz
Seeing your last sentence about a DVD writer. Does Linux support one? If so what software is required? Mariusz Jurgieliewicz wrote:

If you are using 8.2 then by default a process called resmgr (Resource Manager) would be in use. You have to edit /etc/pam.d/login for users to be able to setup CDR's and DVDR's. I had this issue when I did my install of 8.2 and it took me 2 days of poking around before I got frustrated enough to bitch about it on #suse on irc.freenode.net. I had the answer in about 2 minutes about what to do. You need to add this line to /etc/pam.d/login : session required pam_resmgr.so After you do this and have ALL the required dvdtools installed..it should work like a charm with K3B. This was not in the SuSE sdb the last time I looked, but it should be.
