[opensuse] Eclipse 64bit hangs for about 20 seconds when opening file for edit
I have 64 bit opensuse 11.0 on notebook with 2,5 gb of ram. Java 1.6.0_11, 64 bit When I try to open source file in eclipse, it hangs with waiting cursor for about 20 seconds before it opens it - then it works just fine with no speed problems. Also if I have already opened some file during current session and switch back to its tab, it opens immediately - only new files cause the problem. Other parts of interface work perfectly with no lags. I have 64 bit eclipse 3.4 from eclipse.org, before that had 3.3 from repository. Is there a way to somehow fix this? thank's -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I dont think this is actually broken... Eclipse does a fair bit of code parsing and indexing when opening any (new) file.... this can take a little time if the new file is rather complex ... In any case this is not really an openSuSE issue.... - -- ============================================================================== I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone. Yes, but not for 20 seconds. With such lag eclipse is almost unusable for normal work

the time is the same even for the small text file
In any case this is not really an openSuSE issue....
I have not posted this to novell bugzilla, I'm just an opensuse user who has some problems using application from opensuse disk and ask an advice from other opensuse users who might also using the same app in similar conditions on opensuse -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

This is a function of code complexity, code references, code validity, and tools installed (and active). You should only need to import once, and if you are creating any new files create them within eclipse (do not use another editor then import file to eclipse). I normally write within eclipse from scratch. This sounds more like an issue with how you are working on your project(s).

eclipse.org is the eclipse site. That is where you should be asking these questions or looking for info. BTW I normally do not use the openSuSE version, (I use a number of plugins that are not part of this). My version takes about 5 minutes to fully start mainly because it does checks for plugin updates. The openSuSE version is really only useful to get familiar with Eclipse basics, and the 64bit version of Eclipse can be a bit iffy. - -- ============================================================================== I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
