I have an IBM ThinkPad 600E running SuSE 8.0. When I had 7.1 installed, it would correctly suspend when I closed the lid (that is, as long as there was no NIC plugged-in). Now, with 8.0 it will suspend and resume ONLY if I have never used the PCMCIA NIC. Once I've used the NIC, and then removed it and shutdown eth0, it will not suspend. There is a message in /var/log/messages: Dec 3 16:41:49 lt-it-2 apmd[597]: System Suspend Dec 3 16:42:10 lt-it-2 kernel: apm: suspend: Unable to enter requested state I haven't changed anything about the hardware, I just installed 8.0.
