[opensuse] Dropped packages
Hi, i'm having many dropped packages in all my physical interfaces, are there any known fixes?, the module used is bnx2 (no usefull parameters shown in modinfo). This host is running SLES10 SP2 (think of opensuse 10.3, more or less) under the xen hypervisor. The list of devices is listed below.. eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:18:FE:74:79:EA inet addr:10.129.5.118 Bcast:10.129.7.255 Mask:255.255.252.0 inet6 addr: fe80::218:feff:fe74:79ea/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:614399 errors:0 dropped:480593 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:186465 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:80694370 (76.9 Mb) TX bytes:142881123 (136.2 Mb) Interrupt:16 Memory:f4000000-f4012100 peth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:18:FE:74:79:E8 inet6 addr: fe80::218:feff:fe74:79e8/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:639937 errors:0 dropped:612900 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:83674 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:104148534 (99.3 Mb) TX bytes:105562870 (100.6 Mb) Interrupt:17 Memory:f6000000-f6012100 peth2 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:19:BB:D2:0B:98 inet6 addr: fe80::219:bbff:fed2:b98/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:108741 errors:0 dropped:108729 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:29737 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:21562299 (20.5 Mb) TX bytes:7827168 (7.4 Mb) Interrupt:19 Memory:fa000000-fa012100 03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme II BCM5708 Gigabit Ethernet (rev 12) 05:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme II BCM5708 Gigabit Ethernet (rev 12) 18:04.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme II BCM5706 Gigabit Ethernet (rev 02) 19:05.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme II BCM5706 Gigabit Ethernet (rev 02) Regards, Ciro -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Usually this is a memory related problem. You can try reducing txqueuelen:1000 to something like 500. Of course, if you connect all these interfaces to the same switch/hub you could also cause an arp storm. You are dropping packets on interfaces that don't even have IPs, so its pretty likely arp related. Is the switch/hub gigabit capable and auto-negotiating? -- ----------JSA--------- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Dom0 is limited to 1Gb of ram (physically, there are 8 Gb), I'll try to change that parameters anyway and report back. Same VLAN: eth0 and eth1 Separate VLAN: eth2 We are using gigabit switches with auto-negotiating. No, it isnt 10.3 more or less. under the xen hypervisor. does ethtool -K $INTERFACE tx off helps ? Nope, the counter continues to grow.. In which situations should that help? Ciro
