What's an easy client for me to use? And how do I invoke it? (I'm very CLI inclined, so I don't use X much.)
If it's a console client you want, try BitchX, that's included with 8.0
Or 'irc' (I think the package name is ircii) the original and IMHO still the best console based client.
With both of them, you can get help once you've started them by typing /help -- James Ogley, Webmaster, Rubber Turnip james@rubberturnip.org.uk
I do have the SuSE default X login installed on one of my SuSE boxes, so if there is a X based irc client that would be easier for a newbie I can definitely give it a try. I need to get better acquainted with the X desktop anyway. Greg

Dunno if it's part of the default X install (I doubt it) but XChat is certainly on the CDs. It'll be version 1.8.x in 8.0, version 2.0.0 for 8.1 is available at www.usr-local-bin.org, but that won't work with your 8.0 install. It was 8.0 you were using, yeah? -- James Ogley, Webmaster, Rubber Turnip james@rubberturnip.org.uk http://www.rubberturnip.org.uk Jabber: riggwelter@myjabber.net Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 8.1) GNOME updates for SuSE: http://www.usr-local-bin.org

You may want to try kvirc - it's on SuSE CD's too... Radule

I used kvirc for a while not knowing about xchat. KVirc pales in comparison to xchat. There's very few folks who can help you. The scripting is confusing and poorly documented. I was unable to find a way to be connected to several different servers at a time (I tried looking). Oh, and xchat is on the suse CDs too. Mike
