[opensuse] HPLIP on 11.0
Hi... I would install HPLIP on my newly installed openSUSE 11.0. I couldn't see the HP start icon, and I did not know how to start it manually. Then I downloaded the HPLIP for the HPLIP website. I got this lacking dependencies, and have installed gcc. Maybe I need more gcc's installed ? INSTALL MISSING REQUIRED DEPENDENCIES ------------------------------------- warning: There are 6 missing REQUIRED dependencies. note: Installation of dependencies requires an active internet connection. warning: Missing REQUIRED dependency: gcc (gcc - GNU Project C and C++ Compiler) warning: This installer cannot install 'gcc' for your distro/OS and/or version. error: Installation cannot continue without this dependency. If it is installed, you can turn it on with the runlevel editor in YAST/2

The installer does not work with OPENSUSE 11. You can manually install it by following these directions: http://hplip.sourceforge.net/install/manual/distros/novell.html However, you will need to adept it to OPENSUSE 11 since, it has not been updated yet. If you have problems compiling, post your config.log. Charles
Thanks Charles for your reply.

It is installed, but I can't find it in runlevel editor. # rpm -q hplip hplip-2.8.4-28. Proves the installation.

How is that to be done, and do I have to follow the install example from 10.3 ?. Where can I find the config.log file ? Erik -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Proves the installation. That version no longer needs a daemon running all the time. (The daemon was only needed for scanning and monitoring). Once you set it up, you will see an icon in the system tray. It works well in 10.3. There is no need to start it in runlevel editor. You could also get the version from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/jsmeix/openSUSE_Factory/ which should work with 11.0 (or wait a bit til Johannes gets it set up).
