[opensuse] Re: printing
I have installed 10.2 on a machine. When I tried to print from Java I got an error that Java could not find a printer service. So I did an update and there were CUPS patches in the update. Now, however, when I try to get to the printer maintenance dialog, it gets stuck at 4% on building the printer database. CPU usage runs 50 - 60% but no progress is being made. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks. Chuck Davis -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks.
Chuck Davis This has been fairly common. See https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=229231. Short answer: try these
rm /var/lib/YaST2/printers rm /var/lib/YaST2/ppd_db.ycp and then try again with Yast. This should rebuild the printer database and allow you to get going again. -- The best way to accelerate a computer running Windows is at 9.81 m/s² -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Just a quick thank you for this and the earlier response as although I didn't pose the question I had the problem which was resolved from reading this. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
Yes, thanks Darryl. It fixed my problem as well.

Unfortunately, the CUPS update that screwed up the database requiring
the deletion Darryl mentioned did not fix the problem of jdk1.6.0_01
not finding the print services on the machine. Has anyone seen a fix
that will allow the Java print service to user openSuse 10.2 (boxed)?
Thanks for any advice.
Chuck

Thanks for any advice. Johannes already posted the bug report for this. There are two possible workaround solutions in comments 6 and 7, both of which are stated to work.
