How to change IP address in web using PHP ?? --------------------------------- Blab-away for as little as 1¢/min. Make PC-to-Phone Calls using Yahoo! Messenger with Voice.
I added three entries to my etc/crontab and then saved the file using Kate. The entries look like: 27 9 20 * * * /usr/local/f-prot/tools/check-updates.pl -cron 43 6 * * * /home/nathan/Documents/getweather.pl * * * * 6 /root/runfprot.pl None of them seem to be running (even when I change them to run every minute). Is there something I am doing wrong ? Thanks, Digsy Send instant messages to your online friends http://uk.messenger.yahoo.com

Correct format is : minute hour day-of-month month day-of-week <exec> Your top line has an asterisk too many. /Per Jessen, Zürich

Thanks - I changed that but the jobs still arent being run. Is there a cron daemon that I need to make sure is running ? Thanks, Nathan Send instant messages to your online friends http://uk.messenger.yahoo.com

Yes, but it will almost certainly already be running: /usr/sbin/cron When it detects that /etc/crontab has been changed you'll see the following line in your syslog: May 13 20:40:01 io /usr/sbin/cron[4000]: (*system*) RELOAD (/etc/crontab) /Per Jessen, Zürich

You should have a line like: MAILTO=root errors should be mailed to you, otherwise logged. - -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.0 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Made with pgp4pine 1.76 iD8DBQFEZv3/tTMYHG2NR9URAshpAKCOUqhI0k4YQAf7UOe3IizSFhBbcACdFFVp jRsZIzjvrz8lUL/F0VRMCnU= =WSwE -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Errm, not in /etc/crontab. You also need the username: # minute hour day-of-month month day-of-week user <exec> 29 4 * * 6 root rm -f /var/spool/cron/lastrun/cron.weekly Cheers, Dave

You're right of course - funnily, that means "man 5 crontab" is wrong ... /Per Jessen, Zürich

The time and date fields are: field allowed values ----- -------------- minute 0-59 hour 0-23 day of month 1-31 month 1-12 (or names, see below) day of week 0-7 (0 or 7 is Sun, or use names) Taken from man 5 crontab on SUSE 10.0 -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998

Yep, looks just like mine on 10.1 - so where's the "user" field mentioned? /Per Jessen, Zürich

In the text just above it The format of a cron command is very much the V7 standard, with a num‐ ber of upward-compatible extensions. Each line has five time and date fields, followed by a user name if this is the system crontab file, ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

A little more explanation please. What is it you want to change? The IP address of your machine?
