[opensuse] Suse 11 failing install on SuperMicro boards
Hello, This is really strange. I have two different SuperMicro MBs and Suse 11 freezes when installing on either of the boards. Also, memtest 2.0 freezes on both as well. The strange part is that Suse 10.3 installs on these two boards. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. I can check which model it is, but I have 11 running on a SuperMicro MB. Finally I could ditch my local SATA controller driver (for an add- on card, not the one on the MB). It installed out-of-the-box. I have yet to find something that is not working. Which MBs are failing?
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

I don't know if this applies, but memtest 2.0 has a bug such that if you have more than 4 GB of memory AND you have USB legacy support enabled in the BIOS, it will hang. I haven't read anything about USB legacy support causing opensue 11.0 to freeze on installation. I have a server with a TYAN board running 10.2. When I upgraded from 4 GB to 8GB, memtest would lock almost immediately. As soon as I disabled legacy USB support in the BIOS, memtest ran perfectly. Not exactly your situation, but when I saw that memtest was freezing and on a server,I thought you might have more than 4GB memory. Mike -- Michael A. You might try passing nohpet, noapic and nolapic for install. I have had the 11.0 installer crash on a couple of occasions, no rime or reason, just voodoo. I think my first 2-3 11.0 installs crashed and I ended up having to reinstall one of them to get it to work. Sometimes the quality of the DVD burn can contribute if you are installing from DVD.
