RE: [SLE] Problems Installing 9.0 on Netserver LC3 w/ NetRAID 3si Card
I have the same problem except we have a server with an Adaptec 2010S ZCR RAID card configured with 2x36GB and 3x72GB drives. Trying to boot using the 2x36GB as RAID 1. Try disabling acpi Boot using the option acpi=off Craig Herring -----Original Message----- From: Stuart Powell [mailto:stuart@yorkshirepudding.com] Sent: Sunday, December 21, 2003 12:23 AM To: SuSE Linux List Subject: [SLE] Problems Installing 9.0 on Netserver LC3 w/ NetRAID 3si Card Hello, everyone. I just tried a couple of times to install 9.0 on a spare HP Netserver LC3 I have here. The two 9GB hard drives are mirrored via the NetRAID 3si card. I understand this card is an LSI MegaRAID 438 card, and as such have tried using the megaraid2 driver. The installation goes OK, although I had to manually select the RAID driver as it wasn't autodetected. Partitioning seems to go OK, and the packages all install, but after the first boot, there's a kernel panic. I don't see the RAID driver being loaded, and the panic occurs as the system fails to mount / from sda2. Has anyone had success with this setup ? I have an identical machine that I plan to install SLOX4.1 onto this week, and this problem concerns me somewhat. I bought the 3si card as it was the only HP RAID card that shows up in the SuSE hardware database, and it shows as being fully supported. Hello. Oh, yes, I forgot to mention that I tried the various acpi and APIC disabling options, and still no joy. My aging IBM had a similar problem way back when, and the noapic option cured it. I did wonder if using the older megaraid driver might work better, but I was concerned that it didn't even seem to be trying to load the correct driver. And I did check and see which PCI slot the RAID card is supposed to be in, and I do have the card in the properly supported slot for the machine type. Hello, everyone. Sorry for replying to myself, but I think it important that this goes into the archives. I just installed SLOX4.1 onto this Netserver LC3, and saw only the megaraid driver in the list of RAID drivers. megaraid2 was not an option. Using the megaraid driver, the system booted up just fine. Now if it would just autodetect it during the install, that would be nice. I have a second one of these servers sitting here, so I'll try the older megaraid driver with a SuSE9Pro install before I put SLOX4.1 onto it, and let you know how it works out.
