Just wondering if anyone has come across a categorised list of Linux packages and what each package does? This site could then be browsed if a user wants to for instance edit movies to see what main package does the editing.

Perhaps I want a list of the network security tools available. Browsing the list to the relevant category would give me the names, and possibly a short descrtiption of the product or its homepage, of products that were classified as network security tools.

I am aware that Yast has the rough ability but it only includes packages on the install media. Anyone have an idea as this is not distro specific either, it is a categorised listing of all the Linux packages.
