Hi, Anyone knows where I can download Gnome 2.2 for SuSE 8.1? On the Gnome.org site there are precomplied binaries for Debian, Mandrake, Gentoo, but not SuSE. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. ********************************************* * Best Regards --- Andrei Verovski * * Personal Home Page * http://snow.prohosting.com/guru4mac * Mac, Linux, DTP, Development, IT WEB Site *********************************************

You can't :) If you read the archives of this list, you'll find that GNOME 2.2 is dependent on fontconfig/Xft2, which are not included with SuSE 8.1, and since they fundamentally alter the way X handles fonts, you won't find official SuSE 8.1 packages of them. Wait till 8.2 like the rest of us, the number of things that ultimately have fc/Xft2 as a dep is growing by the day, but I think it's going to worth the wait. :) -- James Ogley, Webmaster, Rubber Turnip james@rubberturnip.org.uk http://www.rubberturnip.org.uk Jabber: riggwelter@myjabber.net Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 8.1) GNOME updates for SuSE: http://www.usr-local-bin.org

On this subject, I've decided not to add my Mozilla builds of 1.3b to the site in order to avoid confusion, what with the latest Galeon required GNOME 2.2 components, sorry guys but it was going to be a nightmare, I could just feel it. So, the list of packages that are now waiting till 8.2 for updates on my site now stands at: * Galeon * Gnumeric * Mozilla & Mozilla-GTK2 * MrProject Having said that, other things are due to get updated very soon... ;) -- James Ogley, Unix Systems Administrator, Pinnacle Insurance Plc james.ogley@pinnacle.co.uk www.pinnacle.co.uk +44 (0) 20 8731 3619 Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 8.1) Updated GNOME RPMs for SuSE Linux: www.usr-local-bin.org *********************************************************************** CONFIDENTIALITY. Short answer: You can't. There are unfortunately a few libraries that are required for Gnome2.2 that are not in SuSE 8.1. If you search the list archive, there is a more in-depth answer from the chap over at www.usr-local-bin.org. Nothing stopping you from using Garnome and installing the whole of Gnome2.2 in your home-directory though. ;-) On Thu, 2003-02-20 at 09:38, Andrei Verovski wrote:

Garnome is "the bad-ass, bleeding edge GNOME distribution for testers and tweakers everywhere" :) It's produced by jdub who heads up the GNOME2 release team. You can get it from http://www.gnome.org/~jdub/garnome/ -- James Ogley, Webmaster, Rubber Turnip james@rubberturnip.org.uk http://www.rubberturnip.org.uk Jabber: riggwelter@myjabber.net Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 8.1) GNOME updates for SuSE: http://www.usr-local-bin.org
