[SLE] Changing *TTF to *ttf syntax
Hello, I am trying to change TrueType file names, which are all in caps to all small letters using Linux commands. I typed the command ls *TTF | while read f this gave me
I then typed the command [ -f "$f" ] && mv -f "$f" "`echo \"$f\" | tr A-Z a-z`" quotes and all after the '>' so that it looked like
[ -f "$f" ] && mv -f "$f" "`echo \"$f\" | tr A-Z a-z`"
But the file names are not changing to small letters. I know that copying to DOS FAT 16 will do this too, but I need the Linux way. I do not know what I am doing, as I found this on a Font HOW-TO site. Try for x in *; do mv "$x" `echo "$x" |tr "[:upper:]" "[:lower:]"`; done or if you're too lazy to type something like that mmv "*" "#l1" Ciao, Stefan -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
Hello Stefan, I tried these commands. Neither mmv "*" "#l1" nor mv "*" "#l1" but this one did. for x in *; do mv "$x" `echo "$x" |tr "[:upper:]" "[:lower:]"`; done It did give some static about "same files" mv: `1.ttf' and `1.ttf' are the same file mv: `asf.ttf' and `asf.ttf' are the , but nevertheless, it changed all upper case file name letters to lower case. Try
for x in *; do mv "$x" `echo "$x" |tr "[:upper:]" "[:lower:]"`; done
root@host-name:/usr/opt/src/trash > for x in *; do mv "$x" `echo "$x" |tr "[:upper:]" "[:lower:]"`; done mv: `1.ttf' and `1.ttf' are the same file mv: `asf.ttf' and `asf.ttf' are the same file
or if you're too lazy to type something like that
mmv "*" "#l1"
Ciao, Stefan

mmv has to be installed (it's not installed by default, IIRC).

That happens if there are filenames that are already lowercase. Nothing to worry about as long as you don't have filenames that only differ in case (e.g. FOO.TTF and foo.ttf).
