Dear All, I have my Suse 8.2 distro setup with samba 2.28a and use webmin mostly for samba configuration. I have 3 computers networked using samba. I use a SpeedStream wireless/wired router which is directly wired into my Suse 8.2(samba server). My husband's computer is hooked up to the only printer(HP 940c deskjet) and has windows 98 SE . I , also, have a laptop that is wirelessly hooked up to this router. I can browse easily now through LinNeighborhood on my Suse 8.2, and I can see my linuxserver from windows 98 Network Neighborhood. I can browse and open the shared folders that are my husband's when I am using his win 98 computer, but whenever I try to open the linux computer from Network Neighborhood I get the IPC$ password box that does not accept any passwords. I have studied this for weeks and cannot get around it yet. I have share security setup and encrypted passwords. I did not want to change windows 98 to unencrypted but if that is the only way I will since this is only a home private network with 2 people using the computers-----certainly a trusted network. I believe this could be a permission problem or a password problem even though I did what I can to make sure all the passwords, users, etc are the same on both computers. I cannot figure this out. Here is my smb.conf which shows what a newbie I am at this I am sure. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much. probably the problem is with the username try to list resources by smbclient -L host -U username check your logs check if you have been added to smbpasswd you can alias your username in smbusers -- Marek Chlopek

Dear Marek, Thank you for your help. You gave me the clues I needed and now it is fixed and I can share files between linux and win 98 through samba without problems! Thank you very much. What I had to do was to make sure I added all of the users and passwords in linux again with smbpasswd command plus I turned pcquest into user with a password and added it with smbpasswd in linux. This seemed to make the difference. Thanks for your help. Sincerely, Marcia
