I enable remote VNC in Yast and changed the firewall to allow VNC. I then rebooted the server just to be safe because it said I had to "rcxdm restart" from a console. I then tried to access the server using Firefox, which has Java enabled, by typing http://servername:5801
At that point i'm asked for a VNC password. When I type the root password is when it takes my to the gray screen.
Your problem is that XDM is not setup to accept access via vnc...
Yast2->system->/etc/sysconfig Editor->Desktop->Displaymanager_Remote_Access should be set to "Yes"
Jerry P.S. I don't know why it asks you for a password, it shouldn't we'll look into this afterwards...
The tightvnc package is installed according to Yast
okay, there are many ways to setup vnc. Which one did you use? How did you "enable the server"?
If you would also tell what you would like to do we could help you choose the method...

Can someone point me in the right direction to get VNC working. I enabled on the server, then when I connect via Firefox it asks me for a password. I havn't established a password to begin with. When I put in the user password or root password it looks like it connects put the display is gray with an X marking the curser. If someone is using VNC could please point me in the right direction?
Thanks
