Are there tape systems that may be used for, say, 30 years, by home users or very small sites or professionals? I mean, not data centers with big purses. What can we use?
and, mostly, how can we be sure today that any system will be available 30 years in the future. The system allowing us to find back a 20 years old file sitting on tapes have to be extremely expensive. In fact my wife worked 30 years ago for the french educational minister and when making hes retirement document, nothing was found. Gladfully, mine was :-) but 30 years ago, did we have data tapes? jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://valerie.dodin.org http://news.opensuse.org/2009/04/13/people-of-opensuse-jean-daniel-dodin/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Is that a joke? Magtape goes back a lot more than 30 years. 9-track is now 45 years old. Here's a summary: <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetic_tape_data_storage>
